Decolonization &
Social Equity
“Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
Black Lives Matter
From strikes and rallies to international lawsuits, we focus on encouraging civic engagement that leads to a more direct impact on some of the systems that fuel many unsustainable actions in the world.
Why Decolonization & Social Equity matter?
Decolonization and social equity is an ongoing practice of undoing the systems that contributed to the historic violence of colonization against black and indigenous communities. The lingering impact of colonization can be felt within every level of society from media to banking and especially with regards to our environment. Decolonization is a way for us to all work towards repairing these damages and restoring power to local communities, especially those disproportionately impacted by these structures.
While colonization has thrived through divisive tactics and hierarchical systems such as redlining, decolonization is a way to build community and re-allocate power to a diverse community. Since colonization spans across every industry (religion, sexuality, race, education, media, etc.) it is important to recognize that this is a deeply embedded way of life that we must work at undoing each day. By doing this work, we can start re-imagining a more inclusive, equitable, and empowered future.
In the process of decolonization we have the opportunity to focus our efforts towards supporting social equity. This meaningful work helps ensure equitable protection and access to the collective resources of our society. It seeks the equal say and insight of all of its community members and helps preserve resources that enrich the lives of our communities. In addition to resources, civil rights, freedom of speech, property rights and equal access to social services and goods are all important aims of social equity and racial justice.
Decolonize Leadership Training
July 24, 2020 - July 26, 2020
10:00 AM - 7:00 PM MST
This training is here to address the intersectionality between systematic racism and the environmental crisis we are facing now. We will learn how they are connected and take action with our voices, votes, and communities. Dismantling white supremacy and capitalization of race is essential for change. In order to unlearn the conditions of our society we have to connect, create, and heal together. This training provides a space to process grief, grow our capacity to feel and understand our stories, and create a new vision for what’s to come.
